Basic Hardware Requirements as of 4/1/2008

American Medical Software’s Medical Office Systems will run in a variety of operating environments and network configurations. The AMS Software is a 32-bit Windows® program. It runs on anything from a single PC with Windows® 2000 and 64Mb RAM to intricate LAN, WAN, and VPN connections requiring the expertise of a trained hardware/network technician.

Minimum requirements are based on the AMS software only and do not address other applications that may be running simultaneously. Heavy workloads may increase requirements.

There are additional products from Pervasive Software that are required. Offices with 5 computers or less require the Pervasive SQL V9.52+ WorkGroup Engine. For smaller sites desiring additional security, performance, or growth potential, the Pervasive SQL V9.52+ Client/Server Engine is recommended. Sites with 6 or more computers require the Pervasive SQL V9.52+ Client/Server Engine. Pervasive SQL V10.01 or higher is recommended for Windows Vista. Pervasive products are available to AMS clients

Microsoft Terminal Services/Citrix Metaframe is recommended for wide area networks. It is recommended you have a Microsoft certified hardware technician install these applications.

Following are some typical hardware configurations for a single computer, a two to five (peer-to-peer) network, and a larger network of 6 or more computers with a dedicated server. These are general examples.

DEDICATED FILE SERVER - A dedicated server is a computer that is not used as a workstation.

NETWORKING:

A network using Cat 5 (or higher) cable with RJ45 connectors, a concentrator (hub/switch) and TCP/IP protocol is required. All computers should have matched network cards. At least one workstation should have a CD-Rom Drive and Modem or Internet access (Refer to Peripherals page).

PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS:

Microsoft Terminal Services/Citrix Metaframe is recommended for wide area networks.
It is recommended you have a Microsoft certified hardware technician install these applications. Refer to our ADVANCED REQUIREMENTS. PERIPHERALS:

For printing of statements and the various forms and reports generated by the AMS software, recommended printers are the HP LaserJet P3005 Series printers. Inkjet printers and HP LaserJet 1000 Series printers are not recommended. Dot Matrix printers are not recommended.
The Star Micronics 800 Series Thermal Printer is optional for printing of Prescriptions.

For Electronic Claims Processing and downloading AMS Updates, an internet connection is required.
A broadband internet connection such as DSL or Cable/Modem is highly recommended. 

For Electronic Medical Records Scanning Interface, a TWAIN compliant scanning device or digital camera is required. Additional RAM and hard drive space is recommended. The Scanner should be attached to a workstation on the network.

For Tablet PC use, our software will run on Tablet PC’s using the Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition operating system.

For Handheld Pocket PC Module, a Pocket PC with 400+ Mhz processor, and 64+ Mb RAM using Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 Edition (or higher) as the operating system is required.

For backing up the AMS data files, Zip, Jaz, or multiple SanDisks are recommended for backups. Tape Backups such as LTO drives are also acceptable, but require a backup software application and knowledge of that application. CD/DVD's are acceptable, but require a Packet writing application such as Roxio Easy Media Creator's Drag to Disk application. Note: Because of the limited life cycle and reliability of CDs, DVDs, CD-RWs, and DVD-RWs, they are NOT the most superior storage media devices for backing up your system. External Hard Drives are not recommended.

Reserve Power Supply - A UPS Battery Backup is recommended for Power interruptions.
